Context
The idea for this initiative emerged in the midst of Nepal’s current political and social climate. With elections approaching in just six months, questions of trust, transparency, and accountability in the democratic process became urgent.
How It Started
It all began when a few of us friends came together and started a small group to brainstorm. What began as casual discussions quickly evolved into serious conversations about how we could contribute as IT professionals. The protests and collective energy of youth across Nepal and the diaspora gave us motivation and inspiration.
Key Insights
Technology can and should play a decisive role in making elections fair and transparent.
If we pool our diverse skills—software, cybersecurity, data science, networking, infrastructure—we can create something bigger than ourselves.
An open-source approach would ensure inclusivity, transparency, and accountability from the start.
Next Steps
From this seed of an idea, the vision took shape: to form a global team of Nepali IT professionals and begin designing an open-source election management system—a system built by the people, for the people.
This marks the very first step in documenting our journey. The seed has been planted, and now begins the process of nurturing it into something transformative for Nepal’s democratic future.
